I am a teacher in a small primary school in Argyll and for the last few years I have become increasingly interested in the use of ICT in education. Having experienced most of the pitfalls there seem to be in using ICT I live by my acronym TEPTIAS – those of you who know me well will know I say it frequently. All will be revealed at a later date!
I try and use ICT in most aspects of teaching and am always on the look out for new ideas to try. As there are only 11 children in the school and they are all taught simultaneously (P1-7), progress can sometimes be a bit frustrating and slow but to date we have experienced many successes. We recently bought a digital video camera and enjoy using it record special events but we have also made a film based on a modern day Good Samaritan story, produced and edited by P4-7 which we transferred onto CD and all the parents turned up for the world premier! Recently, we have been experimenting with animation and using iStopMotion and IMovie we produced an animated film in Gaelic. Great for end of term concerts!
Our topic this term is minibeasts and we are busy photographing as many different species as possible to put into a presentation to use as a back drop for a musical composition the children have created using different sounds for different mini beasts. Also intended for the end of term concert.
